The "association des amis de la réserve and its activities

Created in 1978 (one year after the creation of the Nature Reserve) the association has developed different ways of enabling the general public to discover this environment without jeopardising its natural equilibrium.
A permanent facility with the 'Maison de la Réserve Naturelle', situated in the village. Here you will find:
- an aerial view
- a scale model of the valley with explanatory booklet
- video cassettes
- stuffed animals
- various permanent or temporary exhibitions
Entry is free of charge and staff at the Nature Reserve will welcome you and provide information. Guided visits are possible for groups (book in advance).
During the summer the Nature Reserve opens two extra facilities with exhibitions concerning the surrounding environment.
- The 'chalet d'accueil' (information centre) at Fer à Cheval, to discover different aspects of nature in the Haut Giffre (information on the wildlife and flora). A nature trail will take you round the Cirque du Fer à Cheval and the Fond de la Combe.
- At the top of the Grandes Platières cable car - opposite the Mont Blanc an exhibition will provide information about the 'Désert de Platé' (largest alpine Karst in Europe) and the different species which can be found (ibex, birds...). You will also find an exhibition created by the 'Office National des Forêts' (forestry commission).
In the summer and winter season activities are organised for people of all ages.
