'Sixt Fer à Cheval' Natural reserve

gypaete

The Sixt Fer à Cheval Nature Reserve is spread over a vast territory and is blessed with two impressive glacial cirques (Fer à Cheval and Les Fonts) from which gush some formidable waterfalls.

The natural reserve covers a large area of Sixt Fer à Cheval. With its 9200 ha, is the largest in Haute-Savoie. It adjoins that of Passy. But beyond its size, is the wealth of the territory on which it runs, which makes it exceptional. The limestone that is the Upper Giffre is subject to an intense erosion that creates a very uneven terrain which combines wetlands, forests, pastures, cliffs, lapiaz, glaciers, glacial cirques…

The diversity of the nature you will encounter here (humid zones, mixed forest, cliffs, meadows...) together with a large altitude range (900-3100 metres) creates a contrasting environment with a very varied flora and fauna.
